Douglas Laing & Co. – Creator & Purveyor of the Finest Scotch Whisky
Douglas Laing & Co - An independent bottler of Scotch whisky located in Glasgow, Scotland.
Formed in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co. is a leading independent Scotch whisky blender and bottler specializing in genuinely Small Batch Malt Scotch Whiskies based in Glasgow, Scotland.
The company’s philosophy is to bottle the way the distiller intended – at high strength and non-chill-filtered to preserve the robust and unique character of the Whisky. Douglas Laing’s industry reputation and many awards are the testaments to this ethos.
Douglas Laing & Co. was founded by Fred Douglas Laing in 1948 and is still owned and run by the Laing family – Fred Laing Jr and his daughter Cara Laing. Douglas Laing & Co. is one of just a handful of Whisky companies in Scotland that are still family owned. Now in its third generation, at the helm of Douglas Laing are Fred Hamilton Laing (Fred Jr.) and his daughter, Cara Laing.

Almost 70 years on from its humble beginnings, the single goal of Douglas Laing & Co. remains unchanged: To exceed the expectations of the customers and consumers around the world by offering the most special, quality-driven and unique Scotch whisky experience. And so, they continue by creating the finest Blended Scotches in their traditional sense, and more recently by using those same skills to offer the best "Vatted" Malts, demonstrated by their Remarkable Regional Malts collection. Secondly, the stock holding allows them to offer wonderful Single Casks of aged Single Malt and Single Grain Scotch Whiskies, as natural as they get: Proudly without chill-filtration or colouring and at a high alcohol strength to preserve maximum spirit flavour and character.
RANGE OF WHISKIES:
Douglas Laing & Co. is expert in creating perfectly balanced Single Malt Whiskies, Single Grain Whiskies and Blended Whiskies. Here is the line-up of all Whisky brands:
1. Big Peat
Douglas Laing's “Big Peat” is a feisty Islay character with a sweet side. This is a small batch bottling, without colouring or chill-filtration and only contains Islay Malt Whiskies, including Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and (even the now closed) Port Ellen to name but a few! Big Peat is fresh, salty and clean on the nose, with notes of sweet malts dried over peat. Typically Islay in flavour, the palate carries notes of ash, sweet tar, smoking chimneys and a subtle salty beach quality, with a long and lingering phenolic finish.
Launche din 2013, Scallywag is a small batch bottling created using only the finest Speyside Malts including, amongst others, a spirit distilled at Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes Distilleries. Spanish sherry butts care for this spirit as it matures, naturally imparting the distinctly dark, rich colour. Inspired by a long line of Douglas Laing family Fox Terriers, the Scallywag name and endearing canine character are most fitting for this richly spiced and deliciously sweet Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky.
3. Old Particular
Douglas Laing's "Old Particular" is a particularly unique series of individually hand-selected aged Single Cask Malts' and Single Cask Single Grains from all over Scotland. Each is bottled exactly the way the Distiller intended: Without colouring, or chill-filtration.
4. Timorous Beastie
Timorous Beastie captures the essence of The Highlands; a marriage of the region's finest Malts including Dalmore, Glengoyne and Glen Garioch. It is, of course, proudly without colouring or chill-filtration and bottled at 46.8% alcohol, resulting in an oily, chewy spirit that brings an incredible mouth-feel. Timorous Beastie is overridingly sweet initially, then warming to floral, light barley and spicy honeyed tones on the nose.
5. Rock Oyster
Rock Oyster is bottled at 46.8% alcohol strength and traditionally without colouring or chill-filtration. This Small Batch bottling has a truly maritime and oceanic character of sea-salt, sweet peat, smoke, honey, and pepper.
6. The Epicurean
Launched in 2016, The Epicurean is a blend of some of the finest Lowland Malts; a marriage of the best that the East and the West of Scotland have to offer. The Epicurean is barley-rich, citric, floral and herbal on the nose. The mouth-coating sweet palate displays crunched sugar, burnt citrus, mixed spices, thyme, peaches and hard candy.
