Dr. Ignacio Sánchez Recarte was named Secretary General of CEEV, the European Wine organization in June 2015. Before that, he served from November 2011 as Director of Internal Market & Sustainability at spirits EUROPE, the European representative body for spirit producers. In this position, Ignacio looked after spirit drinks and food policy, market access and fiscal discrimination within the EU, environment issues and illicit trade.
He has also worked for Bodegas Chivite, a Spanish wine group, as Director of Environment affairs and Innovation where was mainly responsible for the design and implementation of a long term research policy in the wine group.
In 2004, Ignacio joined the International Organization of the vine and wine (OIV), the scientific and technical intergovernmental organization in the field of wine. He was first the Head of the Viticulture Unit (2004-2007) and later the Head of the Economy and Law Unit (2007-2011).
From 2001 to 2004, he was a researcher in the Food Technology Department of the Public University of Navarra.
Ignacio is an Agronomic Engineer from the Public University of Navarra and obtained his Ph.D. in Engineering at the University of Lleida. A Spanish citizen, Ignacio is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Italian.
